To visit in Charente-Maritime from the cottage in Dompierre on sea Les Dimeries

Holy: An important stop on the paths of Compostela this historic city has kept from its Roman prosperity the remains of the baths, a superb amphitheatre, an aqueduct and the Arc de Germanicus close to the Charente. It is from here that you can board a gabare, a traditional boat that once carried the water of life and stones from the Crazannes quarries.
After this bucolic walk, your steps will take you to the Abbey-aux-Dames and the Church of Saint-Eutrope, the latter's peculiarity being its plan with two overlapping choirs.

Rochefort: Home port of the Hermione where the most adventurous can indulge in the mast-bearer. This city chosen by Colbert to be the largest military arsenal is a spa town.
Built on the right bank of the Charente, its location between two huge marshlands hindered its development at a time when these areas were not yet dry.
To discover the history of this military city and attend a 3D tour of Pierre Loti's house, you must visit the Hèbre Museum.
A visit to the Royal Rope, the most important building in the arsenal, is a must. The length of the building (more than 370 meters) made it possible to make ropes for boats in one piece.
Leaving Rochefort, a short detour by Echillais is necessary to take a look at the ferry bridge of Martrou, unique in France and learn more about the history of this bridge at the home of the ferry next door.

La Rochelle: a historically rebellious city, resolutely oriented towards the ocean, it alone deserves a visit to Charente-Maritime. Its old port lined with sunny terraces, its towers, its arcaded streets make it a must-see. Thanks to its rich historical history as a trading port, it remains to this day a major port complex. Its geographical location protects it from severe storms thanks to the islands that face it. It still has many medieval monuments as well as from the Renaissance period. Its exceptional heritage justifies its success.
Strolling through the streets of La Rochelle under the arcades or in the cobbled streets is a real pleasure. Just look up to make architectural discoveries and indulge in adventure, each street having its own character.
To go green, just go to the city's two parks, Charruyer Park, an English-style park criss-crossed by two streams, and Franck Delmas Park, connected to the first by the Mail's driveway.

Royan: A city of art and history, a seaside town, it was rebuilt after the Second World War and thus seduces the visitor with its architecture of the 50s. Travelling through the Park, Foncillon and Pontaillac districts, you can admire beautiful 19th century villas that have escaped destruction.
Don't hesitate to stroll around the marina and above all, if you are in Royan in the morning, go without hesitation under the covered market, one of the most beautiful in the region.

Marennes: you can't miss out on Europe's most important oyster farm. Oyster lover or not, the place is so singular that you will appreciate it. You will see the clear ones that have taken the place of ancient salt marshes and where oysters take on their green color (thanks to the presence of an algae) and their flavor so sought after. To immerse yourself in the world of oyster farmers, follow the road along the channel that will take you to the port La Cayenne, where the picturesque and colorful oyster huts will put your eyes on you. It's up to you to know if you also want to spoil your taste buds…

Very warm welcome from Claude and Alain. The studio is well laid out and very well located just 10 minutes from Chatelaillon-Plage and a quarter of an hour from the island of Ré. It is an address to give and to make known. The lodge at Dompierre on sea Les Dimeries is perfect for fishing the bar on the island of Ré and enjoying fishing on foot during high tides.

A rental ideally located at the gates of La Rochelle with direct access to the ring road (1 minutes away!). The owners are welcoming and always ready to inform their tenants. If I have to go back to Charente maritime, it will be their home. Very nice apartment what's more.
